Book review: «The Heart of Laser Focused Coaching» by Marion Franklin

The Heart of Laser Focused Coaching” by Marion Franklin

This is one of the best books on coaching - packed with knowledge about interpersonal relationships and human behavior.  This book is important not only for coachers, but also others who work directly with others and people who are interested in learning more about themselves and human nature.

The core message is to go deeper and more directly to the underlying problems on which the issues presented by the coachee is based.  This will create deeper awareness and more sustainable solutions with wider impact. The book also reccommend to focus strongly on the person and not so much on the matter or situation at hand.

So why do I like the wisdom, perspectives and techniques presented in the book? It is obviously because the theories and the connection "between the dots" that the book presents is logic and seems effective and most of all because the directness that is proposed, seems to be a more honest approach.

I have often felt that some of the typical coaching approach is a bit cumbersome and too artificial;  slowly circles in the real problems.

There areof course, risk involved in the laser-focus coaching approach: the coachee may misinterpret the directness and think you have an opinion or think you as the coach are critical of him/her.  So: asking permission and being direct in content but soft in approach is essential.
